No one knows Utah values better than those of us who live in Utah. We don’t need Washington to tell us how to educate our children.
When the Department of Education was first created, I remember listening to my parents (both of whom were educators) as they wondered if it was necessary to create yet another federal bureaucracy. Now we know the answer—it’s clear that the bureaucrats in Washington have not improved the quality of our children’s education.
I believe that state and local leaders are the ones best equipped to develop the policies that are necessary to respond to students’ and parents’ concerns.
